Storyline

At 17, you and your childhood friends, Darek and Eda, decide to take the Pokemon Trainer Exam, hoping to become Pokemon Masters. Unlike your friends, you’ve never been particularly motivated—until now. Professor Alama offers you a starter Pokemon, but due to a mix-up, you don’t receive one like the others. Instead, she gives you a mysterious egg from the Southern Islands.

That night, you, Darek, and Eda visit Sparrow Beach, where you witness the legendary Pokemon Latias and Latios playing in the sky. Under their influence, the egg hatches into a Riolu, marking the true start of your adventure. Together, you set off across the tropical Akebia region, battling Gym Leaders and uncovering deep secrets hidden within the land.

However, your journey isn’t just about becoming a Pokemon Master. Akebia is ruled by the oppressive Royal Family, a powerful dictatorship that keeps the region under its control. There are also mysteries surrounding Professor Alama, who seems to know more than she lets on. Meanwhile, Latios and Latias are being hunted by the Royal Family, as they seek to harness a secret power that only Latios can awaken.

As you travel, you encounter Yang Xiao, a skilled trainer, and his grandfather, Yang Lao, an Elite Four member. Under Yang Lao’s guidance, you and Riolu train in the art of aura, quickly mastering the move Force Palm. Your bond with Riolu strengthens as you learn about your own hidden potential.

In Cardenal City, you, Eda, and Darek stumble upon the Garden of Dreams, where you discover that the “Alama” you saw earlier was actually Latias in disguise. The real Alama reveals her mission: to protect the Eon Duo from the Royal Family. While the group celebrates, tensions rise between Eda and Darek, leading to a heated argument. That night, Latias sends Eda a vision—warning that Alama, Darek, and Latios are in danger.

Joining the rebellion against the Royal Family, you head into battle. During a fight against Majime, one of their top enforcers, Riolu evolves into Lucario, unlocking its full potential. Along the way, you encounter a Shiny Litwick named Wick and learn of Xylon, a spirit who eventually bonds with you, offering protection from dark forces lurking in the shadows.

Upon reaching Lugano City, you meet Queen Amethyst, the ruler of Akebia. Unbeknownst to you, she secretly infects you with Nihilego’s poison, slowly taking control of your body. During a crucial mission in the Royal Laboratory, the poison overwhelms you, causing you to destroy key experiments and unleash chaos. At the last moment, Lucario connects its soul to yours, achieving Mega Evolution and purging the poison, saving you from losing yourself completely.

With newfound strength, you confront Estela and Archie, two of the Royal Family’s most powerful members. Though you fight valiantly, you are ultimately defeated. In a desperate move, Estela attempts to capture Darek’s Latios using a powerful Intra Ball. But before it can activate, Lucario throws itself in the way, sacrificing itself to protect its friends. Devastated by the loss, you nearly give up—until Majime pulls you back from the brink, reminding you that the fight is not yet over.

Your journey is far from finished. With the fate of Akebia, the Eon Duo, and your closest friends at stake, you must rise above your losses, uncover the Royal Family’s ultimate plan, and put an end to their rule once and for all.

Game Progress

The game has 35 brand-new characters, each with their own background and reasons for what they do. You can earn up to the sixth gym badge, which means you’ll get around 30 hours of gameplay thanks to the story. There are also side quests and extra stories for you to explore. While the game doesn’t have any regional or alternate Pokemon forms right now (that’s not the focus), it’s designed for players who enjoy a more mature adventure with a detailed storyline, but still keeps the core Pokemon experience.
